So to celebrate, off we went to watch Ironman which was so cool. Hmm Hilman still prefers his Transformers though. Hehe :)
Another movie we watched last week was the much-talked about Indonesian blockbuster, Ayat-Ayat Cinta. I was initially skeptical as to whether I would enjoy the movie. Given that i have read in the papers that the movie was about 4 women falling in love with the same guy? And polygamy. I sure wouldn't want to give any ideas to my husband. But hey.. i really enjoyed it. Immensely. Enough to make me want to read the actual novel. Which would be a first for me cos i have never read a Malay or Indonesian novel before.
Granted, the show has several loopholes and at least 1 scene had me laughing at the silliness of it all. And the acting wasn't very convincing at times. But the storyline was powerful enough to deliver. And enough to make me cry. Definitely my favorite Indonesian / Malay movie so far.
And just yesterday, i had a blast with my 2 best friends, Aida & Diana. Albeit the horrible dinner we had at a certain halal eatery at the Esplanade. Not to mention, the shoddy service we received. The food was nowhere near decent. And the price we paid was definitely not justifiable.
So anyway, we watched P Ramlee the Musical and were seated at the VIP box. The seats weren't near the stage. But the seats were elevated and the view was clear. I fully agree with Meike that the 2nd half of the show was more enjoyable. And so did Diana and Aida.
The musical was about the life of the legendary icon P Ramlee. It highlights on the hurdles he went through, sacrifices he made and of course his women.
The cast did an incredible job especially Muslee Ramlee whom I thought did a remarkable job of impersonating P Ramlee. It was almost eerie.
Of all the 4 lead actresses, i felt Melissa Saila's performance was most stupendous. She played the character of Norizan, his 2nd wife. I love how she portrayed her character so well.
Of course, Liza Hanim did not fail to impress too. Her singing was stunning and melodious.
One surprising thing i learned was that P Ramlee didn't actually enjoy stardom throughout his whole life. Prior to his death, he witnessed his popularity plunging and seemingly, he died almost as poor as he was at birth. His Tan Sri title was in fact posthumously awarded. I couldn't help but feel sorry for him. And sorry that i didn't know about this till now. Sheesh. I should have done my thesis on P Ramlee instead of Akira Kurosawa last time.
So anyway, it was definitely worth the 100 bucks we each paid for our seats. Especially since we got to meet the cast after that. We were first in line to congratulate the 4 main cast. Hehe...
